Thought

The 35th South Taiwan Statistics Conference (STSC) was held at National Cheng Kung University on May 25-26, 2026. This conference also marked the final statistics conference I attended as a student, making it especially meaningful to me.

Compared with previous conferences I attended, where I often needed considerable time to fully understand the presentations, I found myself able to follow most of the talks and comprehend the research questions, methodologies, and results presented by the speakers. Looking back, this experience made me realize how much I have grown in both my statistical knowledge and research abilities.

In addition, several presentations were closely related to my own research interests, particularly in statistical modeling, methodological development, and data analysis. Listening to researchers approach similar problems from different perspectives broadened my understanding and inspired me to think about alternative solutions and research strategies. It was a valuable opportunity to learn from the work of others.

Although the conference was originally scheduled as a two-day event, all activities on May 26 were canceled due to a typhoon. Following the local government’s suspension of work and classes, the organizing committee announced the cancellation at 3:00 a.m. While safety was understandably the top priority, it was still disappointing that the conference could not be completed as planned. Nevertheless, I truly enjoyed the experience and hope to attend future editions of the South Taiwan Statistics Conference to continue learning and exchanging ideas with researchers from diverse fields.
